What is Asthma?

The number of people suffering from asthma is rising at an alarming rate. By now, most of us are familiar with asthma. But what exactly is asthma, and what causes it?

Asthma is a chronic lung condition that causes inflammation and narrowing of the airways. The most common symptoms associated with an asthma “attack” are wheezing, coughing, tightness in the chest, and shortness of breath. Of course, not being able to breathe freely can be very frightening, especially for a child. And sadly, millions of children are afflicted with asthma every year.

The Theories

What Causes Asthma?

Well, there are many theories. Some believe it’s due to a combination of factors, such as pollution and the increase of other chemicals in our environment. Homes these days are built airtight, and these insulated environments can trap molds, formaldehyde and other chemicals and irritants. Antibiotics and antibacterials are also suspected.

The Problem

Common Asthma "Treatments"

Asthma is typically treated with inhalers, steroids, and other medications. None of these options are cheap, and most must be used over the course of a lifetime. Unfortunately, these treatments only address the symptoms and do not cure asthma. Side effects resulting from the prolonged use of steroids and other medications are of great concern, especially in our children, who can experience sleep problems and hyperactivity as a result.

The Alternative

How Chiropractic Can Help?

As with many medical conditions, Carefree Chiropractic strives to help you get healthy naturally. Our experienced doctors can help determine if a subluxation is the cause of you or your child’s asthma.

Your lungs and diaphragm are responsible for breathing and their ability to function properly is controlled by the nervous system. If there is an interference of the nervous system, the lungs will not be able to function normally. Chiropractic adjustments can relieve the stress that the nervous system is under. Once these subluxations are relieved, the lungs are able to fully function and the symptoms of asthma can be reduced.

At Carefree Chiropractic, our caring doctors have the expertise to determine if adjustments can help your asthma.

The Results

How Research Supports Chiropractic

Chiropractic care is quickly catching on as a safe, natural approach to asthma treatment. Research published in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research documented the results of 81 children with asthma who received chiropractic care. “The two-month study revealed that those under care saw a 45% decrease in the number of “attacks” and that 31% of the subjects voluntarily chose to decrease their medication.”

These results are incredible, and we at Carefree are determined to get rid of asthma for good.
