Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby
Chiropractic Care for an Easier Birth
Chiropractic care throughout your pregnancy is hugely beneficial to both mother and baby. As your pregnancy progresses, the gentle adjustments you receive at Carefree Chiropractic will keep you feeling limber, pain free and healthy. As your due date approaches, you may be wondering if after such a healthy pregnancy, you’ll also have the labor and birth you’re hoping for.
Be encouraged to know that chiropractic care has been linked to shorter labors and easier births. How is this possible?
Throughout your pregnancy, your chiropractor has adjusted your spine and pelvis to keep you balanced and aligned. This has not only helped keep you comfortable, it has allowed your baby to have the room necessary to grow and get into the best possible birthing position. With these two vital goals achieved, you’ve positioned yourself for a healthy, natural birth.
You may have heard the stories of long, painful labors that only end in the mother being wheeled in to have a Cesarean section. Often, a misaligned pelvis leads to these types of complications: the baby unable to get into a good position for birth, and the mother suffering the pain of a difficult labor.
Birth and Beyond
How an Adjustment Can Help
Chiropractic researcher Dr. Joan Fallon has spent over 26 years as a pediatric chiropractor, and has conducted many studies on pregnancy and chiropractic care. Her most recent findings showed a 24% reduction in average labor time for first-time mothers who received Chiropractic care, and 39% reduction for women who were delivering for the second or third time. In another study by orthopedic researcher Dr. Per Freitag MD , the need for analgesics was reduced by 50% in the patients who received chiropractic adjustments.
Due to the chiropractic care these new mothers received, their bodies were healthy and prepared to care for their newborns. Some studies have shown that chiropractic care helped new mothers feel more comfortable breastfeeding, increased milk production, and even reduces the likelihood of postpartum depression.
Here at Carefree, our goal is to help you have the healthiest possible pregnancy, as well as a safe and healthy birth. After the arrival of your baby, we are here to keep you healthy through the postpartum period and beyond.
The Benefits
Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy
Here at Carefree Chiropractic, we have years of experience helping women stay healthy and comfortable throughout their pregnancies. If you are pregnant, or planning to become pregnant, it’s important to know how chiropractic care can not only make your pregnancy easier, but help make your labor and delivery easier and safer.
Pregnancy changes a great deal about a woman’s body. Beginning early in your first trimester, hormonal changes are taking place that typically make a pregnant woman experience fatigue, morning sickness and mood changes. Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to alleviate these symptoms.
The American Pregnancy Association has reported that chiropractic care increases the chances of a healthy pregnancy. As your pregnancy progresses and your baby grows larger, the added weight most often places a strain on your lower back, neck and shoulders. Chiropractic adjustments help to realign your spine and ease the pain you may be suffering.
Weight gain and carrying a baby aren’t the only causes for pain during pregnancy. There are hormones called elastin and relaxin that surge through your body to help prepare you for labor. These hormones serve a great purpose by making your joints and tissues more flexible than usual, but often they become a bit too flexible. And this is what often leads to the pelvic pain that many pregnant women experience, especially during the end of her pregnancy.
Pain-Free Pregnancy
Healthier Pregnancies, One Adjustment at a Time
Our office cares about helping you have the healthiest pregnancy possible, and that includes helping you avoid any pain medications. Thankfully, regular adjustments can greatly decrease the pain and discomfort you may be experiencing as your pregnancy progresses.
With our many years of experience treating pregnant women, Carefree Chiropractic doctors have the expertise and knowledge to gently work with your unique pregnancy. Even if you’re not in pain, chiropractic adjustments can improve the balance and alignment in your spine and pelvis. This can help your baby assume an optimal birthing position and reduce the risk of having a breech baby. Ensuring that your baby is in a good position for birth, and that your own pelvis is aligned, leads to a healthier and safer delivery. In fact, women who receive prenatal chiropractic care report shorter labor and delivery times, according to the To Your Health website.
At Carefree Chiropractic, we have adjustment tables that move to allow us to adjust you safely even with a growing abdomen. Our caring doctors have years of training and experience in adjusting pregnant women safely and gently. Obstetricians recommend and support chiropractic adjustments as part of a healthy prenatal care plan. The American Pregnancy Association recognizes the importance that spinal care plays during pregnancy and states that the nervous system is the master communication system to all the body systems including the reproductive system. Keeping the spine aligned helps the entire body work more effectively. This leads to a healthier pregnancy and a healthier baby.
Our office is here to help you have the healthiest possible pregnancy and would be honored to care for you during this special time in your life.

Is it safe to get adjusted while I’m pregnant?
Yes, it is not only safe but pregnancy is one of the best times to get adjusted by our chiropractors. At Carefree Chiropractic, our doctors have been specially trained to adjust pregnant women. And our adjusting tables are designed to easily accommodate your growing abdomen.
Will an adjustment hurt my baby?
No, getting adjusted will not hurt your baby in any way. In fact, your adjustments can actually benefit your baby even while he or she is still in the womb! Adjustments to your spine and pelvis help remove tension on the ligaments that support the uterus. This reduces any intrauterine constraint to your uterus, which allows the baby the room to develop properly and also offers the baby the room to move into the best possible position for birth.
My back doesn’t hurt at all yet. Should I still see my chiropractor during pregnancy?
Yes! Our office cares about your whole health, and taking care of you before any major pain sets in is very important. Your adjustments will removes interferences to your nervous system, keeping you healthy, which allows for better baby development. Most pregnant women will gain 25-35 pounds by the end of their pregnancy. More often than not, you’ll experience some aches and pains towards the end of your pregnancy as that extra weight begins to strain your back, neck, pelvis, and shoulders. Beginning a good chiropractic care plan early on in your pregnancy will ensure that your spine, joints, and ligaments are already in a good position to support the extra baby weight strain when the time comes.
I just found out my baby is breech! Can you help?
There is hope that chiropractic adjustments can help turn your baby. The Webster Technique is a gentle technique that helps to balance pelvic muscles, relax ligaments and correct sacral misalignment. This, in turn, removes torsion to your uterus. The result is less constraint to the baby, and this allows the baby to turn and get into the best possible position for birth. Although there is no guarantees, research has shown that the Webster Technique has a 75%-95% success rate.
